Polaris Software Net profit soars 78.5% in Q4Chennai-based Polaris Software has finally declared its fourth quarter results on Monday.

The firm posted a 78.5 per cent growth in its net profit at Rs 130.71 crore during the year ended March 31, 2009 against Rs 73.22 crore in the previous year.

The company's Q4 net profit stood at Rs 32.1 crore versus Rs 37.16 crore, QoQ.

Apart from this, the company's total income rose 18 per cent to Rs 337.25 crore in the fourth quarter, from Rs 286.16 crore in the same period last fiscal.

Supermarket chain Tesco defies slump with record profit

Tesco London - Britain's leading supermarket chain Tesco Tuesday reported annual pre-tax profits of 3.13 billion pounds (4.54 billion dollars) up to the end of February, 2009, an increase of 10 per cent on the previous year.

The retail giant posted worldwide sales of 59.34 billion pounds in the 12 months to February 28, ringing up sales of 1 billion pounds a week.

However, the growth in profits was far lower than the 11.8 per cent seen the previous year, the company said.

Compared to the Rs 4,508.76 crore after-tax net profit reported during earlier fiscal, the figures for the year ending March 31, 2009 stood at Rs 4,696.21 crore.

The year-on-year total income increased from Rs 18,979.67 crore in the last fiscal year, to Rs 21,947.76 crore this fiscal.

While pretax loss figures of the company stood at 370 million euros, as against the analysts' estimates of 371 million; the first-quarter net loss was 293 million euros, in comparison to the year-before profit of 133 million euros.
