London  - A British Labour Party politician Friday likened the behaviour of Israeli troops in Gaza to that of the military of Nazi Germany and said Israel's actions were "barbaric and stupid."

Gerald Kaufman, a Jewish member of parliament (MP), whose parents fled Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II, said about the rising Palestinian death toll: "Four Jews against 1,000 Palestinians - that is Nazism."

Kaufman, 64, made his remarks in a BBC interview Friday. He called Israel's actions "not only barbaric but also stupid" because, he said, terrorism could not be defeated by force of arms.

"It failed in Lebanon and it will fail here," he said. (dpa)
