Balmer Lawrie pursuing talks to acquire domestic travel firm
Kolkata-based public sector firm Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd has revealed its plans to acquire a domestic travel firm to provide a boost to its existing travel division.
Viren Sinha, chairman & managing director of Balmer Lawrie, announced that the company was already pursuing discussions with a mid-sized domestic travel firm that also operated in Europe and Far East.
Speaking on the topic, Sinha said, "The tour operator with which we have initiated talks has a presence in Europe and Far East tour segment. we see immense opportunities."
Balmer Lawrie, which enjoys a monopoly over air-ticketing for the government, now wants to enhance its leisure packaged tour business, mainly in foreign holiday destinations.
The PSU has a travel portal with a round-the-clock call centre for managing ticketing & travel business. The company caters to around seven lakh passengers per year.
Meanwhile, Balmer Lawrie is preparing to revive its multi-modal logistics park project in the state. The company's board of directors on Wednesday gave a nod to a proposal for the logistics park project involving an investment of Rs 150 crore.
