2025 Rivian R1S and R1T to feature LFP battery & heat pump: Leaked Documents

As American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Rivian Automotive Incorporated is busy in refreshing its R1S SUV and R1T pickup, a leaked document has revealed that the flagship EV for the 2025 model year will feature significant upgrades to ensure enhanced efficiency and performance.

According to the leaked certification document, the Rivian R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck will come equipped with standard lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and heat pumps. As per the manufacturer’s claims, the new standard battery of the new models will be able to store enough energy to deliver a range of up to 405 miles on city roads and 339 miles on the highway on a single charge.

The other notable enhancement in the upcoming electric models will reportedly be improved efficiency owing to a heat pump. Both, the LFP battery and heat pump, appeared in a leaked document that was recently posted on forum for Rivian Owners. The 64-page certification document also revealed the EPA-estimated range figures for the upcoming EVs with new battery and diverse wheel combinations.

According to the leaked document, the 2025 Rivian R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck’s powertrain will be comprised of a dual-motor that will rely on a 92.5-kilowatt-hour (kWh) LFP battery having a volume and weight of 505 liters and 1,602 pounds (approx. 727 kg), respectively. The default option for the existing models of the R1S and R1T is a non-LFP 105.9-kWh battery having a volume of 562 liters and weighing 1,754 pounds (approx. 796 kg).

At present, the company is also offering a 121-kWh Standard+ battery pack, a 135-kWh Large Pack and a Max battery with a capacity of 149 kWh. None of these three batteries got mentioned in the leaked certification document.

The document also includes numerous range figures for the upcoming vehicles. For instance, the Rivian SUV with 20-inch wheels will reportedly cover a distance of up to 380 miles in the city and 321 miles on the highway per full charge. With 22-inch wheels, the same dual-motor e-SUV will be able to cover up to 405 miles in the city and 339 miles on the highway.

Equipped with efficient LFP battery and heat pump technology, the 2025 Rivian R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck will unquestionably be a step forward in proficiency and sustainability for the brand. These enhancements, in addition to improved range, underscores the brand’s commitment and dedication to advancing eco-friendly transportation solutions.
