Sonia Gandhi defends her son-in-law Robert Vadra
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has forcefully refuted allegations of financial impropriety against her son-in-law Robert Vadra labeled by anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal and senior Supreme Court advocate Prashant Bhushan.
Sonia claimed that there had been no wrongful use of either the office of the Gandhi family or any misuse by businessman Vadra.
Defending Vadra, she said, "Robert Vadra is a businessman. His transactions are transparent and above board. There has been no misuse of either the office of the Gandhi family or any misuse by Vadra."
Kejriwal alleged that construction giant DLF gave an interest-free loan worth Rs 65 crore to Vadra's companies, and the companies used that interest-free money to purchase seven flats worth Rs 35 crore in DLF projects.
Kejriwal and Bhushan also alleged that Vadra had earlier owned properties worth Rs 50 lakh and now the worth of his properties jumped to Rs 300 crore. The duo demanded an investigation into the allegations.
Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni termed Kejriwal and Bhushan's allegations against Robert Vadra as "baseless," claiming that the duo didn't have any proof.
But Vadra, surprisingly, has not come out in defence of himself yet.
Many are of the view that the latest allegations against a member of Sonia's family could be more damaging to the government's reputation than the CWG, 2G and coal scams.
