Selection Criteria For Cricket Team Needs A Review
The four-day test match against Australians at The Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad was a feast for the eyes and soul. Although, the Board President's XI started with a quick loss of three wickets, they soon regained position with the Mumbai youngster Rohit Sharma, who not only scored a magnificent 105 runs but also guarded the pitch, helping XI Team reach safe grounds.
The credit for the first three wickets goes to Brett Lee, Stuart Clark and Mitchell Johnson who gave a shock to the Board XI team. However, Captain Yuvraj started of at a good note and hit five boundaries but was dismissed by Johnson soon.
The Heroes of yesterday's innings were Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli undoubtedly.Virat Kohli made a commendable 77 runs before a straight catch by Ponting sent him back. In a complete turn-over of circumstances where at 120/4 Aussies were in a good position to take a lead on the first day, soon after that with absolute excellence, 146 runs were scored in 123 minutes by Rohit and Kohli putting the Australian side in distress. Rohit was caught at Square-leg soon after completing his century.
This carved out a smooth path for Parthiv Patel (49 runs) and put Australians in a tight spot. The Board President XI wrapped up the day's play with 371 for six in 89 overs.
Just one day after being dropped from the Test Match team, Rohit Sharma has given the National Selection Committee a reason to review their criteria of selection. Although, one good match is not reason enough to select a player but looking at Rohit's form, a doubt does arise.
While looking at the Australian side Lee, Clark, Johnson, Siddle, Kreja and Clarke displayed a lot of cricket excellence on the field and must not be taken lightly.
