Lahore, Dec. 24 : Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General, Ashfaq Kayani has said that Pakistan realises threat posed by militant outfits like, Al Qaeda and the Taliban, adding that the nation is in no mood to compromise with them. Kayani had a discussion with the US Marine Commander, James Conway, over the current security conditions, a private TV channel reported.

The two military officials are believed to have discussed `overall regional security', US drone attacks in Pakistan and US-Pakistan military co-operation on the Pak-Afghan border.

Lahore, Dec. 24 : Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has warned India that it should not underestimate Pakistan's military powers, as the country is capable of thwarting any aggression from its eastern border.

Zardari held a meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General, Tariq Majid in Islamabad, a private TV channel reported.

"Matters pertaining to the armed forces were discussed in the meeting," an official statement said.

Lahore, Dec 24: Pakistan Potato Growers Society (PPGS) has said that the PPP-led government must ban the import of Indian potatoes.

The tension of potato growers and sellers erupted in huge protest against import of Indian potato under concessions by the Pakistani Government.

The protesters issued ultimatum to the government to ban import of Indian potato by December 28, otherwise, the protest would spread countrywide.

PPGS president Mian Muhammad Siddique chaired the meeting, which was attended by potato growers of Pakistan on Tuesday.

Lahore, Dec 24: Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, has described the Mumbai attacks as a `tactical operation' that had strategic ramifications.

Admiral Mulled said that mayhem in Mumbai had thrown political progress in South Asia into jeopardy.

The Daily Times quoted him as saying that military-to-military contacts between India and Pakistan could defuse tensions between the neighbours.

Admiral Mullen also said that there is a noticeable drop in the number of Taliban fighters trying to cross into Afghanistan from Pakistan, a private TV channel reported.

Lahore, Dec. 23 : Pakistan Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar has said that nuclear weapons will not be used in case of a war between India and Pakistan.

Denying the use of nuclear armaments in case of war, Mukhtar said that a nuclear war would prove disastrous for both the countries.

"Indians would never want a war with Pakistan because it might become nuclear, which would be detrimental to both sides," the Daily Times quoted Mukhtar, as saying.

He ensured that the Pakistan Army has all the potential to defend itself if forced into a war.

Mukhtar also denied speculation about resignation of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
