Lahore, Mar 3 : The attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team today bore the hallmarks of the tactics used in the Mumbai strikes, Pakistan Punjab province Inspector-General, Khaled Farooq, said.

Talking to the reporters here on Tuesday, Khaled Farooq said, "The attack resembles the Mumbai attacks."

"That (Mumbai attacks) was also a commando action and this (Lahore attacks) is also a commando operation in which our five officers embraced martyrdom," The News quoted him, as saying.

Lahore, Mar. 3: At least eight Sri Lankan cricket players were reportedly injured on Tuesday when some unidentified persons opened firing at the visitors near the Gaddafi stadium here.

According to The News, unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate firing on the bus in which the Sri Lankan players were traveling.

The firing began just when the team was about to enter the stadium where the second Test match is being played.

Lahore, Mar 2 : A troop surge will not solve the Afghanistan issue, and the US will have to initiate dialogue to achieve peace, former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said.

During an interview with BBC Urdu, he said the international community had criticised him for negotiating with the Taliban in the Tribal Areas, but now the US would have to sign similar agreements with Afghan chieftains.

He said such accords were the only solution to extremism, even if they did not succeed completely.

Lahore, Mar 2 : Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has called on the masses to support him in the current situation, and said his party would achieve its goals in a few weeks, but did not elaborate.

Sharif made the comments while addressing a seminar organised at Jamia Naeemia on Sunday.

Lahore, Mar 2 : PML-N president and former Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Shahbaz Sharif, has said that Zardari tried to bury democracy alive in its infancy and would not escape from its dire consequences.

Speaking at the Hameed Nizami Day seminar on Sunday, he called for making the March 12 lawyers rally a success.

Shahbaz said that though “I am not a saint, but know that the soul of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto will be with us in the long march and sit-in to realise the dream vis-a-vis of restoration of the deposed judges and independence of judiciary in the country.”

Lahore, Mar 2 : Pakistan former skipper Javed Miandad listed former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and West Indian Vivian Richards as his all time favorite players.

"I admired lot of players but I loved watching Viv and Gavaskar. They are my favorite players," Miandad said after accepting the cap that marked his entry into the ICC''s Hall of Fame that includes 55 players.

Attending the ceremony to award Hall of Fame Caps to Miandad and Hanif Mohammad at the Gaddafi stadium, Miandad listed his innings at Sharjah against India as the best of his life, The Nation reported.
