Gorakhpur, Feb 11 : Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Industries Mahavir Prasad has been charged in connection to the murder of an Ujjarpur village resident Ram Pragat in Gorakhpur district.

Gorakhpur Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya Mishra informed that the Allahabad High Court had ordered the registration of a case against Prasad here last night under Section 120 B of the IPC for conspiracy to murder.

Gorakhpur (UP), Jan 29 : Despite increasingly pervasive anti-tobacco legislation and tax structures to discourage tobacco consumption, farmers in Uttar Pradesh have taken up tobacco cultivation.

Significant numbers of farmers in Gorakhpur region of the state are resorting to tobacco cultivation more vigorously after prices of the commodity-hit spurt at domestic and international markets.

Gorakhpur, Jan. 12: : Trade routes between India and Nepal, which pass through the north Indian states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are misused by smugglers who employ physically disabled persons.

Many people from both the sides of the border are involved in smuggling of rice, wheat and other cereals along the 400-km-long border between Uttar Pradesh and Nepal.

Mafia of smugglers have roped in several such physically challenged persons as carriers of illegal merchandise across the border since such persons escape from being frisked at the checkpoints in Uttar Pradesh and also West Bengal.

Gorakhpur/Jammu, Dec 31 : Cold wave gripped north India as dipping temperatures and dense fog made life difficult for people.

In Gorakhpur, there was less movement on roads as people chose to remain indoors due to the biting cold.

Thick fog enveloped the city and people huddled around fires to warm themselves.

Covered in thick woolens, the residents braved the winter chill as they went about their work amid a cover of fog. Number of students in schools and colleges declined as youngsters preferred to stay indoors.

Located in Turkpatti Village, the Sun Temple is about 18 kilometres from Kushinagar. It was built by the local villagers after a huge and exquisitively carved idol of Surya
(the Sun God) made of black stone, was discovered while tilling a piece of land.

The temple has idols belonging to the 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th centuries and is visited by villagers and tourists with deep respect and revernce.
