China to create journalists blacklist

ChinaBeijing, Feb. 13 : A China Press and Publishing Journal report has said that the Chinese Government is creating a blacklist of journalists who break its reporting rules.

According to the agency, moves are on to establish a database of media professionals who have bad records.

The proposed list will include reporters who violate rules or laws.

"Their names will be entered into the list and they will be restricted from news reporting or editing work," Li Dongdong, deputy director of the General Administration of Press and Publication, was quoted as saying.

Bayer plans 100-million-euro research centre in Beijing

Bayer LogoBeijing - Bayer Schering Pharma AG said Thursday that it plans to invest 100 million euros (129 million dollars) over the next five years to open a pharmaceutical research and development centre in Beijing as it seeks to expand its presence in the world's most populous country.

The research centre would be the fourth in the world for the pharmaceutical division of the German drug and chemical company Bayer AG. The others are in Germany and the United States.

Andreas Fibig, chief executive of Bayer Schering, said China is the "key growth driver" for the company in the Asia-Pacific region.

Chinese airport manager sentenced to death for corruption Beijing  - A court sentenced to death the former head of the Chinese Capital Airports Holding (CAH) after he man was found guilty of corruption and embezzlement, the official Xinhua news agency said Wednesday.

Li Peiying, 59, was found guilty of having accepted bribes of 26 million yuan (3.8 million dollars) and embezzling 82 million yuan in the period from 1995 to 2003. The CAH owns 30 airports in nine Chinese provinces.
