China concerned over India''s restrictions on its products

China flagBeijing, Feb 10 : The Chinese Government has expressed deep concern over the import restrictions that India has imposed on products from China.

The China Daily quoted Commerce Ministry Spokesman Yao Jian as saying that China hopes India uses trade remedy measures more cautiously as the world economy is faced with grim challenges.

Yao said both the G-20 and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) have pledged to act against trade protectionism.

"The two sides need to have more communication and cooperation to achieve mutual benefits," he added.

One firefighter dead, six injured after Beijing hotel blaze Beijing  - One firefighter died and six others were hospitalized after fire engulfed a newly built hotel tower in Beijing, state media said on Tuesday.

The firefighter died in hospital early Tuesday after emergency treatment failed to save him, the semi-official China News Service said.

A construction manager also needed hospital treatment for the effects of smoke billowing from the tower next to the new headquarters of state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV).

Hotel on fire Beijing  - A fire has broken out at a hotel tower under construction within the new headquarters complex of Chinese State Television (CCTV) in Beijing, according to witnesses late Monday.

Flames from the 159-metre tall tower, set to house the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and a cultural centre, could be seen from far afield, but it was unclear initially if there were any victims.

The building which caught blaze stands 200 metres from the iconic "twisted arch" headquarters of CCTV, recently completed and designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and German architect Ole Scheeren.

The tower next to the iconic structure - which was only recently completed - caught fire, according to reports.

The building, in the shape of a complex archway, was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and German architect Ole Scheeren, and is one of the flagships of the current building boom in Beijing.

Chinese PM urges Cambridge University to forgive shoe thrower

Wen JiabaoBeijing, Feb 9 : Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has asked Cambridge University to forgive the student who threw a shoe at him during his speech on February 2.

A Foreign Ministry press release quoted Chinese Ambassador to UK, Fu Ying as saying : "I would like to convey the following from Premier Wen: Education is the best help for a young student. It is hoped the university will give the student an opportunity to continue his studies."

"As a Chinese saying goes, it is more precious than gold for a young person to turn around and redress mistakes," Fu added.
