London, Oct 7 : Princess Diana’s bodyguard has assumed a private security job in Iraq to escape the ongoing inquest into her inquest.

According to sources, Trevor Rees, who was the only survivor in the Paris crash that killed Diana, Dodi Fayed and chauffeur Henri Paul, is so desperate to avoid reliving the tragedy that he is risking his life by taking up perilous job.

"He doesn't want anything to do with the inquest. All he wants is to forget and get on with his life. It was a long time ago and he doesn't like to think about it,” the Mirror quoted his wife Ann, as saying.

A friend added that Trevor’s presence in Iraq is a measure of how desperately he wants to get away from the incident that scarred his life.

"That Trevor is in Iraq is a measure of how much he wants to be out of the way. He doesn't want to be involved in the inquest at all - he'd rather be dodging bullets,” the friend said.

"Trevor thinks enough has been said about what happened to Diana, and I think he's right. He went through a terrible experience and doesn't like to talk about it. It has scarred him for life,” the friend added.

However, Rees is still expected to be called to give evidence at the inquest in London's High Court. But, as he will be one of the last witnesses, it is unlikely that he would have to appear before December or early January.

The ex-para was seated in the front seat of Diana's Mercedes moments before it crashed in the Pont d'Alma tunnel. The only survivor in the fatal crash, he broke every bone in his face and suffered severe chest, head and brain injuries. (ANI)
