US Congressman Gary Ackerman meets PM

New Delhi, July 4 : US Congressman Gary Ackerman met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today in the backdrop of the Bush administration support to the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.

Ackerman, who is also the chairman of the House of Representatives panel on west and south Asia, was accompanied by five other delegates at the meeting. 

Ackerman had earlier expressed his doubts over getting the approval of the US Congress for the 123 Agreement, the final step towards operationalising the nuclear deal before the end of the term of George W Bush's administration.

Releasing 'Vision Document 2020 for the North-Eastern Region' here, Dr. Singh said, “Infrastructure deficiency is a major concern in the region. We will link all the state capitals in the region by rail network and Rs 31,000 crore will be invested on roads during the Eleventh plan."

Speaking on the Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) here, Dr. Singh said, "The few bothered about corporate governance and transparency in accounting and management in the era of protectionism, but such laxity is no longer possible."
