BIMSTEC officials meet PM Manmohan Singh

Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Aug 30: Officials from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand called on Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here last evening.

They are in New Delhi for the tenth ministerial meeting of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Mahabir Prasad will preside over the function.

The national awardees include successful entrepreneurs in the MSME sector, khadi and village industries and coir sector under different categories.

Rescue and relief operations intensified in flood ravaged Bihar

Manmohan SinghPatna, August 29 : Rescue and relief operations have been intensified in flood ravaged Bihar as millions await evacuation from the region.

More than 125,000 people have been reportedly evacuated from the flood hit areas so far, there are a million others who are still awaiting succor and relief across over 15 districts presenting a very grim situation.

Local media channels on Friday said that around 120,000 people have been shifted to safety.

PM announces Rs 1000 crore for flood-hit Bihar

Manmohan SinghPatna, Aug 28 : Terming Bihar floods as national calamity, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday announced immediate release of Rs 1,000-crore as flood relief for the state.

The Prime Minister also announced immediate release of 1.25 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains for the affected people.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Singh and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today undertook an aerial survey of Supaul, Saharsa, Araria and Madhepura districts.

PM to undertake an aerial survey of flood-hit Bihar today

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan SinghPatna, Aug 28 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will today undertake an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Bihar.

After a day-long aerial survey, Dr. Singh is scheduled to review the relief and rescue measures launched by the State Government at a high-level meeting with senior officials.

Ahead of his visit, State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met the PM on Wednesday in New Delhi and sought central assistance of Rs 1000 crore and one lakh tones of foodgrains immediately for the affected people.
