New Delhi, Aug 18: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Monday urged all political parties and right-thinking people to work together to bring the situation in Jammu and Kashmir under control.

Speaking to reporters here after the oath taking ceremony of two new Rajya Sabha members, C. Rangarajan and S M Krishna this morning, Dr. Singh said: "Everybody has an obligation to contribute. This is not a partisan issue."

New Delhi, Aug 16 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur joined the Raksha Bandhan celebrations here today with school children from the Capital, who tied rakhis on his wrist at his official residence.

The Prime Minister in his greeting to the people on the occasion said that the festival was an occasion to uphold the traditional values of the country''s culture and acknowledge and celebrate the role of women.

New Delhi, Aug 16 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today reviewed the ongoing situation of Jammu and Kashmir over the Amarnath land transfer row.

Dr. Singh discussed the situation and ways to find a solution with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister A K Antony.

On Friday night, a high-level meeting of the Congress was also held. Pranab Mukherjee held detailed discussions with PCC president Saifuddin Soz and former state chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on the latest situation in the state.

New Delhi, Aug. 15 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday indirectly hinted that Manmohan Singh could be the UPA''s Prime Ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha elections.

"Why not, certainly", she said when asked by reporters at the AICC headquarters whether Singh would unfurl the national flag next year from Red Fort.

Lok Sabha elections are scheduled early next year.

"Hopefully," was Manmohan Singh''s reply.

New Delhi, Aug. 15 : The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Friday condoled the death of school children in the bus tragedy that occurred in Dakshin Kannada district near Mangalore city yesterday.

He has sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh compensation to be given to the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to each of the injured. At least 11 persons, including eight children died after a bus in which they were travelling plunged into the Palguni River near Mangalore.

New Delhi, Aug. 15: The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, said on Friday that the Indian Government’s goal in South Asia is to seek a peaceful, stable and prosperous neighborhood.

Addressing the nation on the occasion of its 62nd Independence Day, Dr. Singh said: “We seek to accelerate the pace of social and economic development in our country and our region, while safeguarding our national security. Our foreign policy has been based on these principles.”
