Mumbai, Jan 17 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will visit the Hotel Trident-Oberoi, one of the sites of the Mumbai terror attacks, for an award function today.

Earlier, Dr. Singh was scheduled to visit here on November 28 for an award function ceremony.

The Oberoi Hotel wing is still closed to the public as renovation is going on after the attacks by terrorists.

It was difficult to say whether the Prime Minister will visit the other sites of the attacks, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Nariman House and the Hotel Taj.

New Delhi, Jan 16 : Terming the local governments as "unsung heroes" of the nation's march towards development and prosperity, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh stressed supremely on reducing `inequity and inequality' and meeting `core development needs'.

Addressing a conference of Chairpersons of District Planning Committees here. Dr. Singh confessed that the progress on genuine empowerment has been `uneven'.

New Delhi, Jan 16 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the two-day National Conference of Chairpersons of District Committee''s and CEO'' s of Zila Parishad here today.

The conference is being organised to focus on the initiatives to empower the grass root Governance in the country.

The conference will discuss the recommendations to explore the possibilities of making Panchayati Raj System an effectual tool to change the face of rural India.

Islamabad, Jan. 15: In response to the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's New Year greetings to Pakistan, the Pak PM has also sent good wishes to India, The Dawn reported.

"May the New Year bring peace to our region, and progress, and prosperity to our people," the New Year message from the Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said.

Gilani thanked Manmohan Singh for his gesture and said, "The leadership and people of Pakistan desire friendly and co-operative relationship with India."

New Delhi, Jan. 14 : The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has received several representations from media agencies regarding certain proposed changes in the Cable Television Network Rules currently under consideration.

He has assured that the matter will be taken up for finalization only after the widest possible consultation with all the stakeholders and eliciting their different points of view on the proposed changes.

Allahabad, Jan 14 : Tibetan exiles have appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his support to their struggle for independence of Tibet.

The protesters, holding portraits of their spiritual leader Dalai Lama, staged a demonstration against the Chinese rule in Tibet on Tuesday.

They chanted slogans against the China and wrote a letter in blood seeking Prime Minister''s assistance for their cause.
