PM sanctions Rs.1 lakh for families of Patiala hospital accident

Patiala, PunjabNew Delhi, Jan. 31 : The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has expressed sadness at the death of five infants in an accident at a hospital in Patiala.

A PMO release said he has directed that assistance be provided from the Prime Minister''s National Relief Fund.

A sum of Rs. 1 lakh from the fund has been sanctioned for each of the families of the victims.

The five new born babies were burnt alive and two others were seriously injuried when the incubators they were kept in caught fire at a private hospital in Patiala.

Prime Minister to undergo pre-discharge tests today

Mumbai attack had support of official agencies in Pakistan: SinghNew Delhi, Jan 31 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will undergo pre-discharge tests at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) today, a week after undergoing coronary heart surgery.

Dr. D''Silva, one of the doctors attending to Singh, informed that the Prime Minister''s condition is stable and he is following a routine exercise pattern.

The Prime Minister also held discussions with some officers of the PMO today.

However, the doctors say they might need to monitor him further.

Indian Premier Singh to be discharged from hospital on the weekend

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is recovering after a heart bypass surgery, is likely to be discharged from hospital this weekend, a news agency reported Friday.

"He would be discharged on Saturday afternoon if everything goes right till that time or we might consider to extend his stay to Sunday," his doctor Vijay D'Silva was quoted by the Press Trust of India as saying.

Seventy-six-year-old Singh was operated on at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the country's top state-run hospital, in Delhi on January 24.

Dr Vijay D'Silva of the Mumbai-based Asian Heart Institute, said the Prime Minister is likely to be discharged tomorrow.

Dr. D'Silva said the Prime Minister has slowly started getting back to his routine.

President Patil visits PM Manmohan Singh at AIIMS

President Patil visits PM Manmohan Singh at AIIMSNew Delhi, Jan 28: President Pratibha Patil today visited the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) to enquire about the health of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who is recuperating after a coronary by-pass surgery.

According to sources, President Patil spent nearly 20 minutes with the Prime Minister''s family at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr. Singh has been shifted out of Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Prime Minister condoles former President R.Venkataraman’s death

Describing the former President as an outstanding figure of public life, the Prime Minister said that the former President would be long remembered for his service to the nation, his strength of character and his knowledge and wisdom.

The Prime Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the members of the former President Venkataraman''s family and friends and admirers.
