Miandad to visit China as cricket ambassador

Javed MiandadIslamabad, feb 12 : Former Pakistan cricket captain Javed Miandad will tour China as a cricket ambassador next month, an official of the sports ministry said on Thursday.

Miandad believes China had the potential to be a cricket power. He will tour the country from March 9 to 15.

"I have no doubt that they could excel in the field of cricket, like they did in other sports," he said.

Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari, who is also patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board, appointed Miandad as cricket ambassador to China in December last year.

Miandad’s ‘exorbitant’ Rs 1.6 million salary demand behind sacking, claims ButtKarachi, Feb. 10 : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed that Javed Miandad demanded an exorbitant salary package which forced the Board to sack him from the post of Director-General.

PCB chief Ijaz Butt said Miandad turned down the offer of Rs 500,000 and demanded Rs 1.6 million as salary.

"Miandad asked for a salary which we could not give to him. I regard him highly as a great cricketer but we can''t pay him more than what we had offered him," the News quoted Butt, as saying.

Miandad set for re induction into PCB fold

PCBIslamabad, Feb. 7 : Javed Miandad may come back into the Pakistan Cricket Board fold, as the officials who were involved in conspiring against him have softened their stand.

The News quoted PCB sources as saying that some of the officials who had plotted a move against the former captain were now losing ground and PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, who had always supported Miandad, now wants to take him back in the fold.

"Miandad is expected to get a call from the PCB headquarters within the next couple of days and a possible meeting is on the cards between the chairman and the batsman," the PCB source said.

Miandad helped me to get rhythm back : Tanvir

Javed MiandadLahore, Feb. 4 : Pakistani speedster Sohail Tanvir has attributed his return to form to former coach Javed Miandad.

The left arm pacer who was dropped from the third one-day international against Sri Lanka last month because of his poor form, shown signs of getting his rhythm back when he took eight wickets in a domestic Quaid-e-Azam trophy match.

Tanvir said that he contacted Miandad after being dropped from the national squad, who advised him to work on his run-up and accuracy.

"The tips helped me a lot and guided me to overcome my poor form," The News quoted Tanvir, as saying.

Pak Senate Committee to probe ‘injustice’ to cricket great Miandad

Javed MiandadIslamabad, Feb 3 : The Pakistan Senate's Standing Committee for Sports has asked former PCB director-general Javed Miandad to appear before it on February 9.

Sources said the committee has invited the former captain and coach of the Pakistan cricket team, who has recently resigned as director-general of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), to appear at the meeting of the standing committee.

Senator Tahir Mashhadi said members of the standing committee for sports were not satisfied with the stance of PCB officials on the Miandad issue.
