Islamabad, Feb 3 : The Pakistan Senate's Standing Committee for Sports has asked former PCB director-general Javed Miandad to appear before it on February 9.

Sources said the committee has invited the former captain and coach of the Pakistan cricket team, who has recently resigned as director-general of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), to appear at the meeting of the standing committee.

Senator Tahir Mashhadi said members of the standing committee for sports were not satisfied with the stance of PCB officials on the Miandad issue.

He said the committee feels that an injustice has been done with Miandad who is one of Pakistan cricket's great players.

Earlier, PCB sources had said that Miandad had resigned over a pay dispute. According to sources, Miandad was offered Rs. 5,00,000 per month, which he refused.

A local newspaper published a handwritten letter from PCB's human resources director Wasim Bari to COO Salim Altaf after discussing the contract with Miandad.

In letter, Bari supported Miandad completely and asked the PCB to pay him on the same terms as agreed with ex-Pakistani coach Geoff Lawson.

The letter also revealed that Miandad wanted full charge of all cricketing affairs to bring the desired results.

Miandad, however, said his resignation was not linked to his pay.

"Salary was not the issue because if I wanted money then I could have become the coach of national team, which the PCB offered me last October," Miandad said.

"According to the contract, I was asked to look after domestic cricket, development of the game and grounds, which was not what I wanted to do for the promotion of cricket in the country," he added.

Miandad has already held the post of national team coach three times. He is the highest run getter in Test matches for Pakistan with 8,832 runs in 124 Tests. (ANI)
