Pakistani FM says India not cooperating in Mumbai attacks probeIslamabad - Pakistan's foreign minister complained Friday that the Indian government was not cooperating in jointly investigating last month's Mumbai attacks which were allegedly masterminded by a Pakistan-based militant group.

"The government of Pakistan has already initiated investigations on its own," Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in a televised statement.

"However, our own investigations cannot proceed beyond a certain point without provision of credible information and evidence pertaining to the Mumbai attacks.

"Any criminal investigation proceeds from the scene of the crime to the criminal. This is standard investigation procedure. Despite our requests, no evidence or information has been shared with the government by India so far."

Qureshi said his government had launched a crackdown on a charity, Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), which was declared a terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday.

Scores of JuD offices have been sealed by law enforcement agencies across the country, and several of the organization's activists have been taken into custody for interrogation.

The organization's head, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, was placed under house arrest at his home in the eastern city of Lahore.

The JuD is believed to be a front for the outlawed Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT), a militant group suspected of masterminding the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks.

Hours before his detention, Saeed denied the allegations and vowed to challenge the sanctions against his charity in local courts.

Pakistani police on the weekend also arrested the chief commander of LeT, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, and Zarar Shah, who is suspected of arranging SIM cards and satellite phones for the Mumbai attackers.

"It is the firm conviction of Pakistan not to allow its territory to be used for any act of terrorism. Pakistan itself has been a victim of terrorism," Qureshi said. (dpa)
