Independent investors have expressed their concerns over the plans to break up the Royal Bank of Scotland to the chairman Sir Philip Hampton.

Sir Hampton has said that only independent minority shareholders will be able to vote on plans to split the bank into separate entities. He added that the bank would take legal advice but pointed out that he believes that the government will not be able to use its 81 per cent holding in the bank to vote on the matter.

Kuwaiti-based Kout Food Group has acquired UK’s Little Chef from private equity firm Rcapital in a deal valued at around £15million.

Rcapital had offered to sell the chain, which is more than five decades old, in May but did not finalise an agreement because it wanted to protect the brand name and most investors wanted to rebrand the business. Rcapital has now said that it has been able to secure terms under which the brand name would be protected.

The founder of Europe’s EasyJet low cost airline, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou has launched a pilot programme with one budget supermarket, EasyFoodStore.

The company is aiming to compete with the likes of Aldi and Lidl, and Poundland in the market. The EasyFoodstore will be located on the ground floor of the -storey office building acquired by EasyGroup in Croydon, south London. The building also hosts other Easygroup businesses, including Easyhotel and Easygym.

Los Angeles, Aug 5 - Actor Bruce Willis has ruled out any chance of going behind the mike to sing a song in future.

The "Die Hard" actor had done a successful cover version of famous song "Under the boardwalk" in the late 1980's. The track, which was originally sung by The Drifters in 1964, made Willis reach number two positions in Britain's singles countdown.

The 58-year-old also sung his version of soul classic "Respect Yourself", but now cannot hear himself singing, reports femalefirst. com.

Los Angeles, Aug 4 - Award-winning actress Helen Mirren says she would love to own a handwritten note belonging to Queen Elizabeth I, whom she has portrayed on screen.

The 68-year-old, who played both Elizabeth I and reigning British queen, Elizabeth II on screen, believes it would be "incredible" to own something that was written by the famous royal, reports contactmusic. com.

New Delhi, Aug 3 : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram Saturday met BJP leaders Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Yashwant Sinha to seek the main opposition party's support for financial legislation during the monsoon session of parliament beginning Aug 5.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said that some suggestions were agreed to during the meeting but there was no meeting ground on some others.

"Some suggestions were agreed to and on some others, there was no agreement," he said but declined to go into the details.
