Spring Travel Season could see US Airlines witness Highest Passenger Numbers in 7 Years

Rising employment and personal incomes may make the spring travel season for the US airlines the best one. It could see maximum passenger numbers in seven years, said industry group Airlines of America.

It is said that around 134. 8 million passengers or around 2.2 million people per day are expected to fly in March and April. If the projections for 2015 turn out to be true then it would be a 2% boost from the 132.2 million people who flew on US airlines in the same period last year.

John Heimlich, Airlines for America vice-president and chief economist, was of the view that two factors, firstly, high consumer sentiment and secondly, the continued affordability of air travel, may add to a busy travel season.

The generic drug of Sovaldi is named as Hopetavir and the cost of the drug for a period of 12 weeks will be $900. Cost of Gilead Sciences Inc.'s Sovaldi is very high. "Gilead is aware of unauthorized generic versions of sofosbuvir being offered in the marketplace .We're focused on enabling our eleven Indian generic partners to launch their authorized generic versions as soon as possible", the company said in an e-mail.

So far, it was the most successful drug for treating hepatitis C. And the cost of this drug for a period of twelve weeks was $86,000.

NY’s Department of Environmental Conservation releases New Plan to Deal with Mute Swans

New York's Department of Environmental Conservation has come up with a revised plan for dealing with non-native mute swans, the majestic white water birds. The new plan involved less shooting and more management.

The department proposed the original plan in December 2013, which asked to shoot and destroy the eggs of the elegant long-necked birds, in order to eliminate the wild populations.

There are many other states including, Maryland, Michigan that have similar plans, with wildlife biologists citing damage that the swans can cause to the native species.

The plan was backed off by the department last March, following an outcry by New York City animal lovers, according to whom the rationale for killing the graceful birds was flawed.

The Florida Center for Investigative Reporting (FCIR) published a report and revealed that some officials in Florida have been reportedly prohibited to make use of terms such as climate change, global warming and sustainability.

Christopher Byrd, an attorney with the DEP's Office of General Counsel in Tallahassee from 2008 to 2013, said that they were asked not to make use of the terms climate change, global warming or sustainability. Byrd also said that superiors in the Office of General Counsel communicated this message to him and his colleagues.

Fruit flies beat their wings at different rates and stroke angles: Study

A new experiment conducted on fruit flies has revealed that the tiny insects are master aviators.

The scientists from Cornell University in New York conducted the experiment to gauge how the flies manage to fly perfectly even though their small bodies and fast-beating wings make them inherently unstable.

Tiny magnets were attached to the flies in order to hamper or upset their flight. The tiny magnet was glued to each fly a short magnetic pulse was applied that forced them to roll like out-of-control aircraft.
