Social Isolation causes premature death: Study

A new study conducted by psychologists at Brigham Young University has revealed about the concept of a healthy life.

According to the researchers, social isolation and solitude can be a cause of premature death. Although older people are more prone to feeling lonely and possess a higher risk of mortality, social isolation and solitude can also cause early death in people who are less than 65 years old.

Other studies conducted on the same issue indicated that for sound emotional health, social interaction is important as it improves physical health on a physiological level.

Glaxo’s asthma treatment under review

According to Reuters, GlaxoSmithKline Plc’s new respiratory treatment for chronic breathing problems is being reviewed to ensure the safety of the drug over long term use to treat asthma patients.

According to the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), they are conducting review of the treatment and are also carrying out the discussion on approval of the combination treatment, Breo Ellipta.

The agency has already approved the inhaled drug combination of vilanterol and corticosteroid for treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which is a breathing disability. It becomes severe over time and generally smokers are only affected by it.

Breastfeeding may Boost Baby’s IQ

A long-term study has indicated an association between breastfeeding and intelligence. The research was done in Brazil, where the researchers traced around 3,500 babies, from all walks of life, and found that those who had been breastfed for longer went on to score higher on IQ tests as adults.

The experts have said that the results, while not convincing, have appeared to back current advice that babies should be completely breastfed for six months. But still, they mentioned that the mothers should have a choice about whether or not to do it.

It seems that a breast biopsy has become a protocol whenever screening tests indicates towards the present of lump or any other signs hinting cancer. In fact, more number of women is advised to undergo biopsies due better breast cancer screening tools.

Now, it is being said that the procedure can leave a room for doubt. In biopsy, a sample tissue is taken and sent for analysis to the research lab. The specialists then find out the presence of abnormal cells in the sample or the tissue is benign.

A research by University of Washington involved more than 100 pathologists in the United States. Lead researcher Joann Elmore said that only a few of them were able to assess more than 230 tissue samples for biopsy.

Researchers reanalyze ‘Yeti’ Hair samples

Yeti, an ape-like cryptid taller than an average human, has been a mystery for researchers for a long time. Earlier, some researchers had claimed that they discovered the Himalayan species of bear. They carried out a mitochondrial DNA sequence to analyze the fossil hair. They found that the samples were similar to fossil of 400,000 years old polar bear.

Now, a group of researchers has challenged the previous discovery. Reanalysis of the hair showed that hair belongs to a polar bear that lives in Alaska. According to the researchers, due to genetic difference in brown bear, it was difficult to connect the hair sample with bears.

Marine Species will have Less Food This Year due to Warm Pacific

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that Pacific Ocean waters off the West Coast are still warm, which means that marine animals like salmon, sea lion pups and auklets will have reduced food supply this year.

The federal agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere submitted the reports this month to the Pacific Fishery Management Council. According to the report, sea-surface temperatures are record high and they will affect the productive ocean conditions. The report has observed a decline in the population of copepods, an important food source for young salmon.
