Rise in Suicide cases at Workplace

Stress at work could lead to serious consequences. Several people take the drastic step of committing suicide under immense pressure. Their professional life affects their personal life a lot, which leads to such conditions.

According to a study, 1,719 people in the US committed suicide at work between 2003 and 2010. And 207,500 people committed suicide outside their workplaces during the same period. The study has been published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

It was found that workplace suicide decreased until 2007, but it again started increasing. The statistics have showed that men are affected more than women and are more likely to commit suicide and those between the ages of 65 and 74 are more vulnerable.

Jalene Salinas, a young girl with terminal brain cancer, who became famous for spending a sweet final moment with Taylor Swift, reportedly passed away at the age of 4.

According to local Texas news outlets, the little girl died on Sunday, March 15. The girl had a small meeting with Swift earlier this month as she checked the final items off of her bucket list.

The hashtag #ShakeItOffJaleneJust was posted on Twitter few weeks before untimely death of Salinas. The supporters after the tweet learned that the little girl’s last wish was to dance with Swift on her hit single ‘Shake It Off’.

The social media campaign got the attention of the Grammy winner, who took the time to spend nearly 20 minutes on the phone with the ailing child.

Three spots in human genome could predict whether aspirin is good or bad for colorectal cancer risk

Researchers have identified two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that can provide differential benefit for aspirin use in relation to colorectal cancer risk.

It is well known that aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. But doctors were reluctant to use NSAIDs for cancer prevention without a better understanding of why the drugs seem to work.

The reason was that for some people the same pills make colorectal cancer more likely. The research was done to know how to separate people who will be benefitted from asprin and those who won't be. The researchers looked at three specific spots in the vast human genome to find this out.

If you are a soda lover, it could be really sad for you to know that diet soda could make you fat. According to a new study conducted by researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center, an individual who drinks soda gains three times as much waist as a non-drinker.

The study, published in Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, studied the effects of drinking diet sodas regularly. The study had included seniors or those who were already 65 years old and above.

Zydus Cadila Launches Generic Version of Gilead Sciences’ Hepatitis C drug in India

Pharmaceutical companies across the globe have been spending lot of money in research to find out effective treatments for Hepatitis C. In India, more than 10 million people suffer from Hepatitis C, which was earlier considered to be an incurable problem.

Today, Zydus Cadila has launched a generic version of Gilead Sciences’ Hepatitis C drug Sofosbuvir in India. The drug has been launched under the brand name ‘SoviHep’. Both the companies, Zydus and Gilead Sciences, have signed a non-exclusive licensing agreement.

As per the agreement, manufacturing of Gilead Sciences’ Hepatitis C drug Sofosbuvir can be done and also allows the distribution of fixed-dose combination of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir in 91 countries even in India.

Social Isolation causes premature death: Study

A new study conducted by psychologists at Brigham Young University has revealed about the concept of a healthy life.

According to the researchers, social isolation and solitude can be a cause of premature death. Although older people are more prone to feeling lonely and possess a higher risk of mortality, social isolation and solitude can also cause early death in people who are less than 65 years old.

Other studies conducted on the same issue indicated that for sound emotional health, social interaction is important as it improves physical health on a physiological level.
