Magnets can control heat and sound: Study

According to the Ohio State University, a study shows that acoustic phonons, the particles accountable for transmission of both sound and heat, have magnetic properties. It has been revealed by the team of researchers that a magnetic field with the same magnitude of MRI helped reduce the amount of heat flowing through a semiconductor by approximately 12%.

According to Joseph Heremans, Ohio Eminent Scholar in Nanotechnology and professor of mechanical engineering at Ohio State, "This adds a new dimension to our understanding of acoustic waves. We've shown that we can steer heat magnetically. With a strong enough magnetic field, we should be able to steer sound waves, too".

SpaceX Photos now available for all

SpaceX photos are now available for anyone to use and share as the privately held space company has put its images in the public domain at the stroke of a tweet. The chief executive of the company Elon Musk, who is also the chief executive of Tesla Motors Inc., over the weekend, first tweeted that the images would be now available under a Creative Commons License, which can be restrictive.

Jupiter ruined early Version of Solar System: Study

A new study has revealed that first version of earth's solar system might have been wrecked by Jupiter. According to the study, the solar system may have once been made up of many super-earths, until the largest planet in the Solar System came.

The study was conducted by Konstantin Batygin, Caltech planetary scientist, and Gregory Laughlin, professor of astronomy and astrophysics at UC Santa Cruz. As per the study, the inner system would have had a number of planets that were bigger than Earth.

John Urschel Loves Playing Football

John Urschel, a Candian-born mathematician and American footballer, has got his paper titled 'A Cascadic Multigrid Algorithm for Computing the Fiedler Vector' published in the Journal of Computational Mathematics.

In an article for the Player's Tribune, Urschel said that many must be assuming that he would stop playing, but such is not the case. He will continue playing.

"Objectively, I shouldn't (continue playing football), I have a bright career ahead of me in mathematics. ... I have no desire to try to accumulate $10 million in the bank. I drive a used hatchback and live on less than $25k a year", said Urschel.

Scientists find a frog that can change its skin texture

A frog found in Ecuador's western Andean forest seems to change its skin texture in minutes and it apparently copies the texture on which it sits. In the beginning, the frog was found by a Case Western Reserve Univ. PhD student and her husband, who is a project manager at Cleveland Metroparks' Natural Resources Division. The amphibian is considered to be the first, which have the capability to alter its texture.

A manuscript was coauthored by the researchers, Katherine and Tim Krynak, and colleagues from Universidad Indoamérica and Tropical Herping, which explained about the new animal and its skin texture plasticity in the Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society this week.
