Mumbai civic body demolishes ramp outside actor Shah Rukh Khan's house

Mumbai, Feb 14 : Residents living near Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's residence in Mumbai rejoiced after the city's main civic body demolished an illegal ramp outside his house, which was causing inconvenience to commuters.

As per reports, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) workers and police reached Khan's residence, known as 'Mannat', in Bandra early on Saturday morning to raze the ramp.

The illegal ramp was constructed by Khan and closed off access to the lane adjoining the house, causing hindrance to residents.

Residents were perturbed as they were not being allowed to use that lane to go to Mount Mary's Church.

"If I would even try taking my two-wheeler through that road, Shah Rukh Khan's bodyguards would threaten me by flashing their guns. They used to scare people telling them not to use that road. But this road does not belong to anyone; it is for us, the devotees of Mother Mary," said a resident, David.

Residents celebrated with sweets as their numerous letters and requests to the BMC finally resulted in results.

"We are happy that the BMC has finally decided to take action. We are very happy because as a child, I have used this road for the Bandra Fair; I have used this road to go to Mount Mary's Church, I have been in this place since my childhood, in Bandra," adding "it will not only be convenient, it shows citizens' power against the BMC," said another resident, Daphne.

The demolition work started after a seven-day notice period to the actor had expired, reports said.

Khan, who is arguably India's most famous Bollywood actor, being called "King Khan" and "King of Bollywood" by many, rose to fame after his 1995 hit "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". He has starred in over 80 films. (ANI)
