Endo International PLC sells Men’s Health and Prostate Businesses to Boston Scientific

On Monday, the pharmaceutical company headquartered in Dublin, Endo International PLC, announced to sell its men’s health and prostate businesses. According to the announcement made by the company, the businesses will be sold to Boston Scientific Corp., manufacturer and marketer of medical devices.

According to the company, it has agreed to sell the businesses for $1.6 billion. While confirming the purchase, Boston Scientific Corp. said that deal value includes additional $50 million in milestone based on 2016 sales.

As per reports, shares of Endo fell less than 1% in premarket trading as the global specialty healthcare company gave quiet guidance for the year. On the other side, after the purchase, shares of Boston Scientific climbed by more than 1%.

Two HIV virus strains come from gorillas in southwestern Cameroon

According to an international team of scientists, two strains of the virus out of four that can lead to AIDS come from gorillas in southwestern Cameroon. It has been reported by scientists in the studies published on Monday in the US. With this new information, scientists have come to know the origins of all strains of the HIV virus, which lead to the deadly disease-AIDS.

There are at least four strains of HIV (HIV-1) i.e. Groups M, N, O and P and each of the strains has its own origin. As per scientists, Groups M and N came from chimpanzees in Cameroon, whereas the origin of O and P strains had been unclear.

New Treatment Offers Significant Relief From Headaches to migraine patients

A new study has revealed about a procedure that alleviates the pain associated with migraines. The new treatment known as image-guided, intranasal sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) blocks could now provide relief from unbearable headaches to migraine patients.

Radiologists from the from Albany Medical Center in collaboration with the State University New York Empire State College in Saratoga Springs, NY, who tested the interventional radiology treatment found that a single treatment can reduce migraine pain levels by about 35% nearly a month after the procedure.

For the study, a research team led by Dr. Kenneth Mandato, a radiologist in Albany, focused the pain levels and migraine symptoms on 112 patients who had an average age of 45 years.

Korean researchers have revealed through a study that coffee consumption could help people avoid clogged arteries. Blockage in arteries increases the risk of heart disease.

The study involved more than 25,000 male and female employees. The study results indicated that employees who drank three to five cups of coffee a day reduced their chances of suffering from heart diseases. The study has debunked results of previous studies that coffee consumption is linked to heart risk factors as it raises cholesterol or blood pressure.

Need of Rigorous Age Verification for E-Cigarette Sales

A study published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics has unveiled that around 94% of the time teenagers are able to buy electronic cigarettes.

As per the study, internet retailers have refused five out of 100 attempts to purchase e-cigarettes due to age. And, additional five attempts to purchase the product were refused due to parental control settings.

The study throws light on how easy it has become for children to buy electronic cigarettes on the internet. The study is akin to another study conducted by the same researchers who highlighted that it is very easy for teenagers to buy alcohol on the internet.

US Ebola Survivor Nina Pham Files Lawsuit against Texas Health Resources

Ebola survivor nurse Nina Pham, 26, also the first patient to be diagnosed in the United States with Ebola on Monday, filed a lawsuit against parent company of the Dallas hospital, Texas Health Resources where her treatment was going on.

Pham on Monday said in a statement that the hospital lied to Congress that its staff was well trained to handle the deadly virus.

Nina Pham, who was an intensive care unit nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, said she was only ‘Googled’ by her manager in the last fall that she would be treating a patient suspected of having Ebola. She said only this small piece of information was given to protect herself from the deadly virus.
