Bio-hackers from California Successfully Test World’s First Night Vision Eye Drops

A team of bio-hackers from California's Science for the Masses has successfully tested world's first night vision eye drops. The team claims that their eye drops gives an average person's eyes the capability to see in the dark.

Gabriel Licina is the person who agreed to undergo a bio-hacking procedure that would allow his eyes to see even in the absence of light.

The team during the procedure pinned opened Licina's eyes in order to avoid blinking. After being held open, his eyes were then flushed with a saline solution to wash away any possible contaminants, said researcher.

The bio-hackers then poured three doses of microlitres of the black Ce6 (Chlorine e6) solution onto his eyeballs, according to CNET.

First bionic retinal implant surgery performed in Asia Pacific region

A team of researchers performed an innovative bionic retinal implant surgery in Honolulu at the Eye Surgery Center of Hawaii. This is the first time that a surgery of this kind has been performed in the Asia Pacific region. The surgery focuses on restoring vision for the blind people.

The operation was performed by a team of doctors, which was led by Dr. Gree T. Kokame. The groundbreaking procedure was completed on 24th March, 2015. Dr. Mark Humayu, professor of Ophthalmology - University of Southern California (USC) eye institute, Los Angeles, CA and co-inventor of the Argus II Implant were also there, when surgery was performed.

Brutus, a two-year-old rottweiler from Loveland, Colo., has become the second pup to get four prosthetics. It has received training and therapy for some months and now it is back on its feet.

Laura Aquilina, Brutus' foster mom, said, "He just has these little peg legs to get around on and he does a pretty fantastic job inside the dwelling".

Laura shared that Brutus was left out in the cold by its breeder when it was a puppy. It suffered severe frostbite due to the same and its breeder then amputated the pup's feet on his own. The dog was adopted, but was surrendered, as it became difficult for them to maintain the day-to-day demands of the dog.

Britain will provide all infants a vaccine for potentially fatal meningitis B. Britain decided to offer vaccine after it reached a price deal with GlaxoSmithKline PLC.

In 2014, government health advisers suggested the use of the Bexsero vaccine and months have been spent by the government discussing about the price. Owner of the drug is Novartis that lately sold most of its vaccines business to GlaxoSmithKline. Britain will become the first country to offer the vaccine to all babies.

Drug-Testing In School Harms Relationships between Students and School

A leading US pediatrics group has recommended that drug-testing in school should not be adopted to prevent young people from experimenting with illegal substances. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in a policy statement released on Monday said that it clearly opposes randomly drug testing-students because there is not enough evidence to show that the process is effective.

They said that random-testing can also harm relationships between students and their schools. It is also a possible policy breach, the group said.

The Supreme Court nearly 15 years ago established the legality for school-based drug testing for students. Supporters of the practice said that random drug testing in schools discourages students from using drugs.
