London, June 21 : A brave victim managed to get her brutal fiancé to admit he raped her by trapping him into a text message confession.

Kelly Turner gathered the courage to approach cops after four months but was showed little hope of a conviction since the forensic evidence had long vanished.

But the 25-year-old was determined to put fiancé Luke Ward behind bars for inflicting torture on her and braved the confession, "pretending to be his friend."

Kabul  - Three civilians, all women, were killed in the cross-fire of a battle between Taliban militants and NATO forces in eastern Afghanistan, while two policemen were killed in a roadside bomb attack in the country's centre, officials said Sunday.

Local officials in the eastern Kunar province said 11 more civilians were wounded in a clash between the members of the Islamist extremist Taliban and a joint NATO-Afghan National Army force in Pech Valley of Manogai district late Saturday.

Farmingdale, New York  - The US Open will not finish until at least Monday after more heavy rain in the New York area forced another delay to play on Sunday.

Sixteen of the 60 remaining players have not even begun their third rounds and play on Sunday will not begin until 1200 local time, a delay of four and a half hours.

A deluge on day one set the tournament back and a Monday finish is now the earliest the tournament can be completed.

Mosul, Iraq  - Athil al-Najifi, the Arab nationalist governor of Iraq's restive Nineveh province, is striking an uncompromising tone on thorny relations with Kurds in the provincial capital, Mosul.

In an exclusive interview with the German Press Agency dpa, al- Najifi, who led the Sunni Hadba Coalition to victory in January's provincial council elections on a platform of regaining control from Kurdish parties, said he expected Iraqi Kurdish parties "to come to grips with the changed situation" after his coalition's victory and the US withdrawal from the city.

London  - British Broadcasting Corporation BBC in a terse announcement Sunday said its correspondent in Tehran has been asked to leave.

"With regret, Jon Leyne, the BBC's permanent correspondent in Tehran, has been asked to leave by the Iranian authorities," the BBC said.

"The BBC office remains open."

Further details were not immediately available in the development, news of which had begun to leak out of Tehran via non-media channels of information over the previous few hours.
