Excessive TV watching linked to increased risk of death

A new study has found a link between TV watching and eight different ways of death. Researchers said that cancer, heart disease, diabetes, influenza/pneumonia, Parkinson's, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, liver disease and suicide.

Researchers started going through data from a study in which 567,169 US people aged 50 to 71 years were surveyed. These people were surveyed about their health and diet. In the next part, the researchers have compared survey data taken between 1995 and 1996 with a follow-up data, whose information was taken after 15 to 16 years.

Severe acne patients often prescribed ineffective antibiotics

A research carried out at NTU Langone Medical Center has unveiled that people having severe acne problem are often prescribed ineffective antibiotics. Till the time they switch to a more effective treatment plan, a vicious circle of drug overuse among patients is formed in which bacteria start being resistant to antibiotic treatments.

The research findings are based on the assessment of medical histories of 137 patients over 12 years of age. They have taken treatment at NYU Langone for severe acne issue between 2005 and 2014. Study's lead researcher Dr. Seth Orlow was of the view that there is a need at the end of doctors to be quick in identifying cases that are not getting results antibiotic therapy.

Oregon Teen tests Positive for Bubonic Plague

The Oregon Health Authority has disclosed a case of bubonic plague in the state. The authority announced on Tuesday that an Oregon teen has been found contracting the infection caused by Yersinia pestis.

Emilio DeBess, the condition public health veterinarian, confirmed the case and said that the 16-year-old girl was on a hunting trip earlier this month near the small town of Heppner when she was bitten by a flea. The girl fell ill on October 21 and three days later, she was taken to a hospital. The government agency revealed that less than ten cases of human plague have been confirmed in the country every year.
