Scientists debate whether or not chimpanzees can learn new words, accents

Humans can learn new words and different accents but the same can't be done by all living beings. A debate is going on in the science community, and it has driven scientific progress. Scientists are debating on whether chimpanzees can really learn new words and accents or not.

Although the subject is not that exciting as the major scientific debates of history, still if it can be proved that chimpanzees have accents and can learn new words, it may help in revealing significant information about primate intelligence.

All American Meats recalls over 150,000 pounds of ground beef over E.coli contamination concerns

All American Meats, a Nebraskan company, is recalling over 150,000 pounds of their ground beef owing to possible E.coli contamination. The recall was issued after tinted beef was found and tracked back to the company based in Omaha.

On Sunday, the US Department of Agriculture has announced the recall; two days after a test came out to be positive for the presence of E.coli. The beef was produced on October 16 and the problem was spotted on October 30.

Dr. Lawrence Robey, Madison County Health Officer, said, “If there's a recall sometimes you can take it back from where you bought the product and if there's any questions about it, it's always safer to throw it away”.

Guinness to stop using isinglass in its brewing process

For the first time since Guinness started brewing beer 256 years ago, it is turning fully vegan friendly from 2016. It means that Guinness will no more be adding fish bladder in its beer brewing process. The Irish brewer is especially eliminating isinglass, a gelatin made from fish bladders, from its drink.

Isinglass is used to filter yeast particles from the finished product. But from next year, an animal-free method would be used. Not only Guinness, many beer and wine makers use this process. Guinness said, “Isinglass has been used widely within the brewing industry as a means of filtration for decades. However, because of its use we could not label Guinness as suitable for vegetarians and have been looking for an alternative solution for some time”.

Putting Calorie Count on Menus Make Restaurants to Opt For Healthier Options

When it’s about eating outside one usually ends up eating fast food which is high in calories. Now a new study has found that customers consume high calorie food despite the calorie counts menu boards. But it showed that menu labeling may lead restaurants to serve healthier options.

The findings of the study published on Monday in the journal Health Affairs showed that just a small number of fast-food customers ordered lower-calorie food items due to calorie counts on menu boards at four major chains in New York City.

The city asked the restaurant chains with at least 15 locations to mention calorie information on menus since 2008. After this rule went into effect, merely 12% of consumers ordered items which were low in calories and that later dropped to 9% in 2013 and 2014.
