Vital to have complete knowledge of diabetes

An estimated 208,000 children in America are diagnosed with either type-1-diabetes or type-2-diabetes, shared the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is very important to be aware of what diabetes, its symptoms are and how it can be prevented as it gets unchecked then uncontrolled blood sugar can lead to negative results.

Dr. Stacy Meyer, endocrinologist and Dayton Children's Dr. Mom Squad blogger, explained about diabetes, "Diabetes is an endocrine disease that affects how the body uses glucose, or sugar. When we eat, our bodies break down the foods into many different and important nutrients, one of those being glucose, a major source of energy for the body and its functions".

When glucose level increases in the bloodstream, it indicates pancreas to start producing the hormone insulin. Owing to insulin, glucose in the blood enters cells and used as energy. If there is no insulin then blood sugar levels remain high and cells do not get that much needed energy. Owing to which a person can suffer from many health complications.

Type-1-diabetes happens when a child carries a certain genetic variation leading to inability to produce insulin. In the case of type-2-diabetes, body produces insulin, but it is not using it effectively.

Its signs include frequent urination; feeling quite hungry, thirsty and tired; loss of weight or gain of weight, slow healing on cuts. Best ways to prevent type 2 diabetes are to reduce having food items that are high on sugar, high on fat and fried foods.

People should drink ample amount of water and reduce portion size of their meals and be regular for physical activity.
