Antarctic Ice Cover Has Grown In Past Two Decades: Study

So far, we have heard that climate change is causing melting down of ice sheet in Antarctica. This affect of climate change is said to be most devastating in the West Antarctic Ice Sheet and the glaciers along the Antarctic Peninsula. But now, a new study has shown that Antarctica's ice has grown over past two or more decades.

But several experts have shown their disagreement on the results of a recent study by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). They said the research refute all the previously conducted scientific investigations, including the ones that were performed by NASA researchers themselves.

An asteroid zipped past Earth on Halloween afternoon

On October 31, an asteroid zipped past Earth, and revealed something, which was considered to have a spooky resemblance to a human skull or jack-o-lantern. As per the Verge, the US Space Agency NASA has gathered many detailed images of the space object when it whizzed within 1.3 lunar distances of the planet Earth, which is nearly 300,000 miles above the surface.

The asteroid has been given an official name, 2015 TB145. It was trekked by the planet at 1pm on Halloween afternoon and zoomed by at 22-miles per second. The US Space Agency pointed radar at the asteroid when it traveled by and three days later, released the resulting high-resolution pictures.

Scientists debate whether or not chimpanzees can learn new words, accents

Humans can learn new words and different accents but the same can't be done by all living beings. A debate is going on in the science community, and it has driven scientific progress. Scientists are debating on whether chimpanzees can really learn new words and accents or not.

Although the subject is not that exciting as the major scientific debates of history, still if it can be proved that chimpanzees have accents and can learn new words, it may help in revealing significant information about primate intelligence.

Diamond-formation process may not be as rare as believed: Research

A new research conducted by research team at Johns Hopkins University has suggested that the process of diamond formation may not be as rare as previously believed. However, the research paper, published in the journal Nature Communications, has said the diamonds thus formed are minute. Most of these diamonds are of a few microns.

For the research project, Johns Hopkins University geochemist Dimitri A. Sverjensky was helped by graduate student Fang Huang. Researchers discovered that the birth of diamonds can take place in a relatively simple natural chemical reaction.

All American Meats recalls over 150,000 pounds of ground beef over E.coli contamination concerns

All American Meats, a Nebraskan company, is recalling over 150,000 pounds of their ground beef owing to possible E.coli contamination. The recall was issued after tinted beef was found and tracked back to the company based in Omaha.

On Sunday, the US Department of Agriculture has announced the recall; two days after a test came out to be positive for the presence of E.coli. The beef was produced on October 16 and the problem was spotted on October 30.

Dr. Lawrence Robey, Madison County Health Officer, said, “If there's a recall sometimes you can take it back from where you bought the product and if there's any questions about it, it's always safer to throw it away”.

Guinness to stop using isinglass in its brewing process

For the first time since Guinness started brewing beer 256 years ago, it is turning fully vegan friendly from 2016. It means that Guinness will no more be adding fish bladder in its beer brewing process. The Irish brewer is especially eliminating isinglass, a gelatin made from fish bladders, from its drink.

Isinglass is used to filter yeast particles from the finished product. But from next year, an animal-free method would be used. Not only Guinness, many beer and wine makers use this process. Guinness said, “Isinglass has been used widely within the brewing industry as a means of filtration for decades. However, because of its use we could not label Guinness as suitable for vegetarians and have been looking for an alternative solution for some time”.
