Planned Parenthood’s presence in Texas has reduced significantly

According to Texas, it has been successfully able rebuild a safety net without Planned Parenthood. But according to independent health experts, the state will take a long time before it can reach a level when Planned Parenthood was a vital part of its family planning efforts.

The government has come up with the new system after four years of cutting funding for Planned Parenthood. The state's retooled family-planning programs are even considered as a model for Republicans in Congress who want to end funding for Planned Parenthood at a national level.

As per the data provided by Texas health officers, the new programs has covered 317,393 women in 2014, which is almost equivalent to 320,044 women covered in 2010 when the funding was not cut from Planned Parenthood.

Humans Have Been Consuming Honey from 4,000 to 9,000 Years Ago: Study

Almost every person likes honey. The sweet treat has number of other uses, apart from its use for human consumption. A new study has revealed that humans have been consuming honey as early as 4,000 to 9,000 years ago.

Earlier, the bee colonies were very less and were limited majorly to Northern Europe due to climate. Richard Evershed, a chemist from the University of Bristol, said, “Although evidence...suggests mankind's association with the honeybee dates back over thousands of years, when and where this association emerged has been unknown until now”.

Cockroaches are able to Boost Power to Their Mandibles

Researchers at the University of Cambridge conducted a study on cockroaches and concluded that the tiny creatures can boost power to their mandibles, enabling them to chew through tougher materials than would otherwise be likely.

The researchers said gnawing through tough materials is not an issue for those cockroaches who depend on mandible boosters, giving them super-charged chewing powers.

Cockroaches are known for their nearly indestructible nature and capability to thrive in different conditions. The researchers closely studied the cockroaches and noticed that they can combine fast and slow twitch muscle fibers in their jaws.

Earth’s Water is as old as the Planet Itself: Study

More than two-thirds of Earth's surface is covered by water, but its actual origins are not known yet. Since long, scientists have been uncertain whether water was there at the time of the planet’s formation, or if it has arrived afterwards, probably along with comets and meteorites.

Now, with the help of advanced ion-microprobe instrumentation, researchers from the University of Hawaii at Manoa discovered that rocks from Baffin Island in Canada have proof that water was present on Earth from the beginning. The study has been published in the journal Science’s November 13 issue.
