A latest research has suggested that noise generated by shipping traffic in the Salish Sea extends into the same frequencies that local salmon-eating killer whales use in hunting and communication.

The focus of earlier research has been on low-frequency noise pollution generated by container ships and its impact on balleen whales, latest underwater sound measurements noted in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound have disclosed that ships have also been generating high frequency noise, travelling much farther than earlier believed.

Lead author Scott Veirs of Seattle’s Beam Reach Marine Science and Sustainability School said that Orcas find their prey by sending out clicks and hearing the echo, a process that may get disturbed by shipping noise.

A new medical invention is about to surprise people with its unique nature to examine the patient’s health, which would require not much effort but just merely putting on a device. A rare device called wearable monitor could collect data from various chemicals in body sweat for measuring health indicators such as heart rate and body temperature. A large US study has suggested that for girls and young women, consumption of a lot of fiber could pay off years later with decreased risk of suffering from breast cancer.

Researchers analyzed data on over 44,000 women participants in a long-term study. They discovered that the one who consumed the most fiber during high school and in the beginning of adulthood were nearly 20% less likely to develop breast cancer by middle age as compared to the ones who ate the least fiber while young.

The authors noted in the journal Pediatrics that there is a reason to trust that dietary fiber may affect developing breasts in ways that could have an effect on long-term cancer risk, however, so far, nobody has ever followed-up over that long time span.

For years, Dart said that she was ill, and she helped lead local efforts for raising money for cancer research.

In a post on KING 5.com in 2012, Dart wrote, “After my initial breast cancer diagnosis just over four years ago at age of 33, I was fortunate to receive advanced screening and new drugs that had just been approved, due to grants and funding by Susan G. Komen for the Cure”.
