Apart from exploring sand dunes of Mars, NASA’s Curiosity rover is busy in clicking selfie. The car-sized space vehicle took a robot selfie last week when it was roving the Namib Dune of the Red Planet, the space agency of the US announced.

The latest picture by the Curiosity Mars rover was different from a normal selfie as it was clicked without using an arm. Then how the rover clicked the flawless selfie? NASA JPL revealed the photo is a mosaic designed by using 57 self-portraits. The vehicle uses a robotic arm and decided a perfect position a shot. After that, it beams back image to NASA, and Curiosity’s team composes all the pictures together, NASA JPL explained.

Earlier, a study outlined effects of worsening drought on forests in California and stated that conditions are not good for trees. Now, a survey by US Forest Service found that the Californian drought has been doing more damage than the area’s ecosystems can handle.

Conditions of forests in California are worsening where the drought has been causing a spiral of death, the service announced on Monday. It released a report of 300 pages highlighting the effects of the drought. According to the report, Effects of Drought on Forests and Rangelands in the United States, weather is becoming hotter and drier. It could be lead to massive insect outbreaks, bigger wildfires, the report added.

Huge population of endangered African lions has been spotted at a remote locate in Ethiopia, announced the Born Free USA and the Born Free Foundation. The new discovery has confirmed an old hypothesis which states that the big cats thrived there.

The lion species has been discovered in North West Ethiopia’s remote Alatash National Park, said renowned lion conservationist Hans Bauer. More than 50 big cats were found on the Ethiopia-Sudan border during an expedition, Bauer, conservationist working for Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit, added. The lions were also discovered in a region known as Dinder National Park.

For the first time, scientists in Britain will be allowed to conduct experiments on gene-editing technique as Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority has supported the controversial practice for trials on human embryos.

The landmark decision, which comes on Monday, will allow scientists to use the technique just to conduct experiments, and not to create babies. Their major objective will to improve fertility treatments by understanding human development. Researchers have to destroy the modified human embryos after a few days.

And with it, the dream of Elon Musk, the CEO of private spaceflight company SpaceX and electric-car company Tesla Motors, to create a superfast new space transportation system seems to have inched a step closer to reality.

The Hyperloop competition was held at Texas A&M University in College Station over the weekend. The MIT team, which had created a passenger-carrying Hyperloop "pod", would now begin working on a small-scale prototype.
