West Seattle woman, who claimed battling cancer three times, faces allegations that she never had cancer

A prominent West Seattle woman, who said that she’s battled cancer three times, has been accused to never have had cancer at all.

In the past few years, a number of businesses and community members had rallied around Tracy Dart. Numerous fundraisers raised money for Susan G Komen, but there also have been cases wherein it seemed she could have benefited herself.

For years, Dart said that she was ill, and she helped lead local efforts for raising money for cancer research.

In a post on KING 5.com in 2012, Dart wrote, “After my initial breast cancer diagnosis just over four years ago at age of 33, I was fortunate to receive advanced screening and new drugs that had just been approved, due to grants and funding by Susan G. Komen for the Cure”.

She mentioned that the money rose via events like the Susan G. Komen 3-Day saved her life.

The allegation hasn’t been independently verified by Dart family, but while speaking to KING 5 News, they said that they have hired an attorney. The family mentioned that they had decided to release a statement, but they changed their mind on Monday morning.

National Susan G. Komen spokesperson Andrea Rader said that Tracy has apparently been never undergone a treatment for cancer at all.

Rader mentioned that previous week, a team captain from Tracy’s fundraising group ‘Team Tracy’ contacted them and said that they were told by Tracy’s family member that she never suffered cancer. Susan G Komen added that the lady raised $400,000 for their cause, roughly $30,000 by herself.

Besides the fundraising success for Komen, there were also initiatives to help Tracy on a personal level. In 2011, an event at ‘The Bridge’ raised over $7,000 for helping Dart.

On Monday, a person involved with the fundraiser told KING 5 that all the collected money went to aid with living costs while she underwent treatment for cancer.

Auburn Volkswagen’s owner Matthew Welch told KING that he was notified about Dart’s alleged lies on Friday. He added that a ‘Team Tracy’ member has asked to talk to him personally.
