Genetics have always been blamed for gray hair, but scientists have recently discovered the particular gene that turns hair gray. CBS News reported that a study released in the beginning of this month by Nature Communications has discovered that the IRF4 gene, which has been previously known to be culprit for light hair of Europeans, can be linked to gray hair as well.

Study researchers examined the DNA of 6,000 Latin American individuals, including the ones belonging to Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Chile, to find out the genes that decide hair color, density, and texture. With the help of the diverse gene pool, the researched found that the IRF4 gene is the culprit for gray hair.

Seeing the unexpected increase in late-winter influenza cases, hospitals throughout some parts of the Southeastern United States have implemented strict visitor regulations.

The upswing in influenza cases has been seen in Illinois, Indiana and North Carolina. Public health officials said that the flu has turned more dangerous and deadlier in some areas.

As per the Illinois Department of Public Health, influenza cases in Chicago, Illinois have gone up from 49 in December 2015 to 326 by February 27 this year.

Public health department spokesperson Jennifer O'Malley said that in Indiana, 19 individuals have so far lost their lives because of the flu since October, 2015. Over 50% of the deaths of the current season were reported in the last two weeks.

Cleveland Clinic doctors are ready to have a detailed discussion over the first uterus transplant performed in the United States. The medical team has decided to reveal the details.

Late last month, the Cleveland Clinic doctors conducted a surgery on a 26-year-old woman, who was without uterus. It was a complicated nine-hour surgery.

Some details were made available by the hospital. The statement informed that donor uterus belonged to a woman who had died. The hospital made an announcement last fall that it would try 10 transplants under a clinical trial.

Good news for Jimmy Carter’s fans came on Sunday when the former US President announced end of his cancer treatment. Carter said his doctors think he no longer needs drug treatment for the disease.

In a new alarming study on Zika virus, researchers from Brazil have revealed that pregnant women in Zika-affected areas who become infected with the mosquito-borne diseases could be at an increased risk of not only giving birth to a child with microcephaly, but also having a fetus with severe health complications.

These women may have a fetus with health issues with the nervous system. The virus has also been linked with high risk of fetal death, as per the study. It also stated that more than 30% pregnant women who had Zika infections showed fetal abnormalities in an ultrasound. These problems included microcephaly, a rare condition where a baby takes birth with a small head.
