Being Unfit Increases Diabetes Risk despite Appropriate BMI

A new research in Sweden, conducted on young men, revealed that the risk for developing type 2 diabetes later in life is higher in case of youngsters who have low levels of muscle strength and cardio-respiratory fitness.

“Not only were both low aerobic and muscular fitness linked with a higher long-term risk of diabetes, but this was true even among those with normal body mass index (BMI)”, said Dr. Casey Crump of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and the lead author of the study.

The name of a 26 years old woman was placed on the waiting list a day before to her nine-hour-long operation for uterus transplant. After the day of her operation, February 24, the woman became first to receive a uterus in the US.

Star Trek inspires the Idea of developing Teleportation Technology

Teleportation was first seen happening in Star Trek, a television drama series, and it may soon become reality as some German scientists have taken inspiration from the science-fiction drama to develop a similar technology that makes the idea appear practical. The team of scientists has successfully used laser beams to teleport technical language without traversing properties of energy or matter.

Alexander Szameit, Ph.D from the University of Jena in Germany, was leading the team who thought to give teleportation a try after realizing that most of the technologies that we use presently were introduced through reel even before their invention. Their concept to experiment with theory of teleportation was based on properties of elementary particles.

An article on human hand received an outcry from reviewers, including some professional scientists, two months after its publication on PLOS ONE, one of the largest online open access scientific journals. Scott Kelly documents 340 days in space, but wants to go back

Last week, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly returned to earth after his 340-day stint on the International Space Station (ISS). But, the record-breaking astronaut wants to go back to the space station. Why?

During his four missions to the ISS, Kelly has spent about 520 days in space. While addressing reporters on March 4, the 52-year-old veteran astronaut said time has come to send someone less experienced from the US space agency to the space station. First operational dive of Okeanos Explorer’s 2016 season may have accidently discovered new octopod

This year’s first operational dive of Okeanos Explorer has come across the discovery of a new octopod. This is what the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientists believe.

During the first dive of the 2016 season on February 27, it explored depths of more than 4,000 meters northeast of Necker Island in the Hawaiian Archipelago.

The motive behind the dive was the collection of baseline information and a probable link between Necker Island and Necker Ridge. It was to collect samples to find out if they possess the same composition. However, during the dive, ROV Deep Discoverer also examined biological communities.
