Probiotic pill could one day be used to prevent dental cavities by regulating pH in mouth

In a research paper on dental health, University of Florida scientists said that a probiotic pill could be used one day to prevent dental cavities by regulating pH level in the mouth. The scientists have come up with bacteria that break down substances within mouth and can handle the functioning of other bacteria that cause cavities. After further development and tests, the technique could be helpful in preventing dental cavities.

Bacteria on the teeth make a cluster together and lead to the formation of plaques, forming acids, causing teeth break down. Mouth’s acidity level or pH level should stay neutral. However, if it goes up, it raises the risks of development of cavities and other conditions.

Zika virus is becoming more terrifying with each new discovery

Zika virus has raised a vigil among medical experts and health ministries in many countries. Almost every day, scientists are coming up with fresh discoveries on the Zika virus, and each bit of information they are getting is making the virus more frightening.

On Thursday, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said that there is nothing regarding Zika control that is fast or simple. Dr. Frieden added that the only fast thing is the mosquito bite that can give a person the virus.

Sleep Quality Important for Good Health and Higher Work Efficiency

Sleep disorders should be carefully checked for and medical help should be taken whenever required. A new research paper said that different behavioral practices which are important for a good sleep, should be followed by everyone.

Maj. Jaime Harvey, chief of Human Factors and Operational Safety Issues, Headquarters Air Force Safety Center, said, “One of most beneficial ways to ensure healthy lifestyle is to prioritize sleep, the same you do best eating and exercise habits. And one of key ways to do that is by trying best to maintain regular wake and sleep pattern, everyday of the week”.

Scientists get intimate view of havoc that comet C/2013 A1’s passing wreaked on magnetic environment around Mars

A few weeks prior to the historic encounter of comet C/2013 A1 with the Red Planet in October 2014, NASA's Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft made an entry into Mars’ orbit.

With a motive to keep sensitive equipment aboard MAVEN safe from probable damage, some instruments were switched off at the time of the flyby. Similar procedure was followed for other Mars orbiters as well.

However, some instruments, including MAVEN's magnetometer, were on, and conducted observations being on the front-row at the time of the comet's remarkably close flyby.

Greenhouse gas concentration likely played a role in setting all of last 16 yearly global temperature records

In a new research paper on climate and impact of greenhouse gases, scientists have informed that global temperatures in 1937 were record-breaking for that time. Two years later, the heat record was broken again, and more records were set in 1940, 1941 and 1944.

It is for the first time ever that climate scientists have got to know the role of greenhouse gas pollution in global temperatures measured at the time of record-breaking years back to 1937, when industrialized cities and nations kept on burning coal to provide power to trains and factories.

Daniel Mitchell, an Oxford University physicist, who has been closely monitoring climate change, said what they have got to know was that they may actually find out human influence on worst events much earlier than they’d thought.

Louisiana black bear to be delisted from Endangered List

The Louisiana black bear will be no longer on the threatened species list, as per a statement issued on Thursday by the United States Department of the Interior. The department also made it clear that the black bear in Louisiana will be soon delisted, but hunters shouldn’t expect a season anytime soon.

On Friday, the black bear species, also known as the main inspiration for the teddy bear, will be off from the government’s list of endangered and threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. The animal got a place in the list 24 years ago when officials noticed it was facing habitat loss. That time, the state had just 150 bears. Now, there are more than 500 black bears living in Louisiana and Mississippi.
