Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 5 : A new study gives greater insight into the growth of cancer cells, bringing researchers one step closer to the fight against the fatal disease.

The study identifies a previously unknown "off-switch" for cancer, based on the protein TMX1, that can serve as a new strategy for personalized medicine.

Cancer tissue is known to alter its metabolic behaviour by repressing respiration.

This metabolic switch accelerates growth of tumour cells and promotes resistance to cell death mechanisms, making cancer difficult to treat.

The study found that the reduction of the protein TMX1 can single-handedly exacerbate these characteristics of cancer cells.

Lahore [Pakistan], Sept. 5 : The Pakistan government has admitted on the floor of the Senate that it is still in dark about Islamabad's involvement in the terror attack on the Pathankot airbase in India.

According to Dawn, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, who was responding to questions on behalf of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, failed to give satisfactory replies to the questions put by the members on the issue and later admitted that the government had no information at all since the "sensitive issue was being dealt by the intelligence agencies and secrecy was also involved in it".

Uproar followed his remarks as Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani asked the minister whether the intelligence agencies were "above the federal government".

New Delhi [India], Oct.5 : Barely days after India's surgical strikes in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), there have been seven or more attempts by terrorists to attack Indian locations, including Akhnoor and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir and Gurdaspur in Punjab.

The tally of ceasefire violations, unprovoked firing and terrorist attacks in Kashmir has exceeded twenty five. All attacks have been beaten back and by the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF). A constable of the Border Security Force, Nitin Kumar, was killed.

Washington D.C. (USA), Oct. 5 : According to a recent research, girls with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are at a higher risk for multiple mental disorders that often lead to numerous problems such as abusive relationships, teenage pregnancies, poor grades and drug abuse.

The researchers found that 37.7 percent of girls with ADHD met criteria for an anxiety disorder compared with only 13.9 percent of girls without ADHD.

10.3 percent of girls with ADHD were diagnosed with depression compared with only 2.9 percent without ADHD.

42 percent of girls with ADHD were diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder, compared with just 5 percent of girls without it.

Oppositional defiant disorder is characterized by angry, hostile, irritable, defiant behavior.

New Delhi [India], Oct. 4 : Anil Kapoor recently opened up about what he does being the big man for his children- actors Sonam and Harshvardhan.

The 59-year-old star appeared at a chat show and revealed that he had never given any acting advice to his children.

"To be honest with you, nobody really gives anybody any advice. We let everyone experience their own journeys. We're always there," he said.

The 'Slumdog Millionaire' actor attended with nephew, Arjun Kapoor on the show.

The duo opened interesting doors to the matters of choice and success in an individual's life.

According to Arjun, there is always the one thing that should be, "your choices should be your own."
