Perth [Australia], Oct.8 : The Indian Junior men's hockey team suffered a 3-4 dramatic penalty shootout defeat against Victoria Vikings in the semifinals of the Australian Hockey League ( AHL) here last evening.

The juniors had stormed back from a 3-0 deficit, courtesy to Varun Kumar's hat-trick which took the game to a shootout after regulation time.

The two teams were the ones with the strongest defences in the pool stages, India conceding 7 goals, and Victoria 9. The first quarter was played out to their strengths, both teams organising themselves tightly in the defensive areas, and controlling and cancelling each others midfields.

Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 8 : A recent study suggests that certain cancer progression proteins and metastasis are stored as amyloid bodies in dormant cancer cells.

Once the amyloid bodies disaggregate, the cancer cells become active again.

Amyloid bodies are known to play a role in the development of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease but their contributions to the progression of cancer have been largely unknown.

This discovery points to a new avenue for the treatment of various types of cancers by applying knowledge gained from neuroscience to tumor biology.

The author of the study Stephen Lee said, "The amyloid state of protein organization is typically associated with debilitating human neuropathies and rarely observed in physiology,"

London [UK], Oct.8 : Former Pakistan test opener and selector Aamir Sohail has said that he is totally perplexed by media reporting on a bizarre request by Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi for a farewell match.

In an article for PakPassion.net, Sohail said, "Now let's be honest here and recognize the fact that Afridi has served Pakistan well in the past. However, let us also remember that Afridi has announced his intention to retire on a number of occasions which doesn't help his case. On top of that, when a player wants to play a final game, he would like to play that match in front of home crowds. Since there is no international cricket being played in Pakistan at the moment, how exactly will he have a farewell game in front of a home crowd?"

According to the Meteorologists, storm surge in some areas had been measured at more than 4 feet.

CNN quoted Governor Rick Scott saying as "We are seeing impacts right now from St. Augustine to Jacksonville Beach. Unfortunately, this is going to continue through the night."

Flash-flood concerns have been raised due to hurricane Matthew.

A warning for parts of Nassau County, north of Jacksonville has been issued by the National Weather Service.
