Hormel Foods recalls 153 cases of peanut butter over metal shavings concern

Owing to concerns over metal shavings’ presence in peanut butter jars, Hormel Foods Sales LLC has decided to recall the product. The company is recalling 153 cases of peanut butter made at its Little Rock, Arkansas, factory.

On Thursday, the company said that 153 cases of reduced fat creamy Skippy brand peanut butter might have small pieces of metal, which were discovered during an in-line magnet check. The company does not have idea as to how the metal shavings came into the product. The 16.3 ounce jars have been shipped to places like Publix, Target and Wal-Mart distribution centers in Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Caroline, Delaware and Arkansas.

The product is having best before use date of DEC1416LR1 and a UPC code of 37600-10500. Health officials said that people who have this product can return it from where they have purchased it. There is a second option as well to call at 866-475-4779.

The company said that till now, they have not received any reports of injuries. Hormel said that only this product has been recalled, and it is not applicable on any other size, variety and packaging of Skippy brand peanut butter.

Metal shavings can lead to injuries including severe choking along with airway obstruction, gastrointestinal perforation or secondary infection. The Food and Drug Administration was in sync with the company on no report of injuries or customer complaints have come.
