‘Jannat’ Is Doing Well On All Sides, Says Mukesh Bhatt
Ace Bollywood filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt has special words of praise for his leading man, Emraan Hashmi, who made ‘Jannat,’ a grand success.
‘Jannat’ is an elusive hit from Bhatt's side, after a hat trick of box office failures in the form of Dhokha, Awarapan and Showbiz in 2007.
Jannat has taken a smash-hit opening through out the country. It has been declared a ‘hit’ since after a brilliant opening weekend, the movie has managed to sustain well over Monday and Tuesday as well, hence breaking up the line of back to back box office failures that Bollywood has witnessed during last few weeks gone by.
Mukesh Bhatt, who is throwing a success party for his friends and well wishers today evening in Mumbai, said, “Jannat has been rock steady even on the weekdays which is big considering the fact that majority of films do see a dip on Mondays/Tuesdays regardless of how big a weekend may have been.”
Mr. Bhatt also said that the movie has still managed to confront the challenge as IPL is active on all the days.
“True, it wasn't the case of a one off one day international which comes and goes. Here we are fighting it out evening after evening and still emerging victorious. The film is making money for everyone involved and at Vishesh Films we have yet again managed to balance commerce with content,” he said.
While discussing about money, as per Mukesh Bhatt the movie has done well in international markets also.
“Over the weekend, the film has earned 50,000 pounds in UK, 35,000 dollars in US and 400,000 Dirhams in Abu Dhabi. These are huge numbers which make Jannat as Emraan Hashmi's biggest overseas success,” said Bhatt about his protégé.
Closer home too the collections seem to be making headway on a thrilling note.
“Because the film hasn't seen a drop over the weekdays, we are looking at first week's collections of Rs. 20 crores net. Since the weekend itself threw around Rs. 12-14 crores, Rs. 20 crores is pretty much achievable now. For a small film like Jannat, these numbers take it to the hit category right away in one week flat,” said Mukesh Bhatt with a big smile.
Getting over-romantic about the young blood that has come together for Jannat, he said, "In the industry it is very difficult for newcomers to be able to make an impact. They have to slog and strive to get noticed with so much of cut throat competition around. This way I am happy for my boys Emraan Hashmi, Kunal Deshmukh (director) and Vishesh Bhatt (story/screenplay writer) who worked with so much of enthusiasm to make sure that they together make Jannat a success. And look at the way they have managed to accomplish this!"
