IT industry shares concerns expressed by Premji, says Nasscom
Industry body, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) has said that the IT industry agrees with the concerns expressed by Infosys' chairman N R Narayana Murthy and Wipro chairman Azim Premji on the mismanagement by the government.
Som Mittal, president of the Nasscom said, “Our concerns are no different from what Murthy and Premji have expressed. Key policy issues and executive decisions pertaining to our industry have been pending for long. They require urgent attention of the government if we have to remain competitive in a challenging environment.”
Premji has said that the business is working without government support and warned that if the situation does not change that the country might face difficulties for the years to come. The harsh remarks for the government came after the World Bank cut India's growth forecast to 6.9% in 2012-2013. Premji accused the government of mismanagement and thwarting the economic growth in the country.
Murthy pointed out that the government’s decision to apply tax laws retrospectively had sent a wrong signal to the international business community about investing or doing business in the country. He said that the high growth trajectory is not possible without the participation of foreign investors.
Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro has created more than two million direct jobs and accounted for 25 per cent of the country's merchandise exports, generating $69 billion in fiscal 2011-12.
