Israel to seal off West Bank during elections Tuesday
Tel Aviv - Israel is to seal off the Occupied West Bank, preventing Palestinians from entering the Jewish state during the country's election day Tuesday, the military spokesman said.
The closure, which will last for 24 hours, from midnight (2200 GMT Monday), is being imposed "in light of security assessments," a statement from the Spokesman's Office said.
Palestinians needing to cross into Israel for humanitarian or medical purposes will need the authorization of Israeli officials, as will senior Palestinian officials, medical personnel, religious workers, teachers, members of non-governmental organizations and other professionals, the statement said.
Israel usually seals off the West Bank ahead of Jewish festivals and other public holidays. (dpa)
