Indonesian mobile phone operators to get preview of BlackBerry 10
According to The Jakarta Post, BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM)'s executives will soon be visiting Indonesia to give the mobile phone operators in the country a preview of RIM's forthcoming BlackBerry 10 platform, as well as to talk about market entry strategies.
Making the disclosure about RIM executive's planned Indonesia visit, Frank Boulben - RIM's chief marketing officer - said during the course of a recent limited press interview that the visit would take place "within a couple of weeks." Boulben added that the executives will "speak with carriers" when they visit Indonesia in "mid October."
As per the information shared by Boulben during the interview, the RIM executives visiting Indonesia will hold meetings with the mobile phone operators - or carriers - that are already experienced in bundling the BlackBerry devices with an array of operator service programs and packages.
With Boulben also adding that Indonesian carriers had shown interest in RIM's newest BlackBerry 10 platform, a recent study by the International Data Corporation (IDC) projected that RIM will likely ship as many as 3 million BlackBerry devices to Indonesia by 2012, with the number increasing to 8 million by 2015.
Acknowledging that "acquiring new customers" was also one of the key aims of the RIM executives' visit to Indonesia, Boluben said: "What we (RIM) want from operators is the commitment to go into the market."
