Google Glasses on the catwalk at Diane Von Furstenberg fashion show
For the Diane Von Furstenberg fashion show during the New York Fashion Week on Sunday, September 9, 2012, Google came up with a publicity stunt of sorts for its Google Glass project, with the models taking to the ramp in attires that had been ingeniously outfitted with the high-tech glasses.
The Google Glass eyewear - which will be priced at $1,500; and will likely be launched in 2013 - is equipped with a small embedded camera and a tiny screen which displays data above the wearer's right eye.
That the Google Glasses were enthusiastically received at the Diane Von Furstenberg fashion show was evident from a Google-released short video footage, which has apparently been filmed entirely with the futuristic eyewear.
The video shows celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker getting photographed with the yet-to-be-finished Google Glass; and also features some behind the scene clippings that has models, stylists and even von Fustenberg herself sashaying with the glasses on.
After the Diane Von Furstenberg fashion show had the supermodels taking to the catwalk wearing Google Glasses, the show concluded with Google CEO Sergey Brin and von Furstenberg holding each other's hand, in a symbolic gesture that marked the beginning of a remarkable partnership between fashion and technology worlds.
Meanwhile, in a tweet following the appearance of the Google's new augmented reality glasses on the catwalk, billionaire business magnate Rupert Murdoch said: "Genius! Sergey Brin showing revolutionary new glasses at DVF, can take photos, receive texts, give directions, and more."
