Gilani completes full political circle in 20 years by being asked to tame Nawaz once again!
Islamabad, May 13 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani seems to have completed one full circle of his political life, as he has been asked to make PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif fall in line once again, as he was made to do in 1986.
Then he worked for Gen Zia-ul-Haq, Mohammad Khan Junejo and Pir of Pagara, but now he has been assigned the job by PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
But, there is a marked difference in the political outlook of Gilani 20 years down the line, which has made him a more mature politician.
A Railway Minister then, Gilani was dispatched by Gen Zia to make Sharif fall in line, because the latter had started asserting his prowess as Punjab chief minister.
Gilani took it as an opportunity to topple Sharif’s government and mustered support of more than 100 legislators, but only to burn his fingers, as Nawaz quickly grasped the situation and held secret parleys with the trio – Zia, Junejo and Pagara, to reaffirm his political affiliation and loyalty. The result was that Zia declared that – “Nawaz ka Kila mazboot hai”, said The News in a news analysis.
Junejo also issued a statement saying no change would take place in Punjab, while Pagara said that there was a hole in the sack of Nawaz which had been filled.
Gilani felt betrayed and cheated by Zia, Pagara and Junejo, as he got the loud message from his three political godfathers that he was only used to make Nawaz fall in line, otherwise there was no plan to remove Nawaz from the top slot of Punjab.
Now after 20 years, last week Gilani was once again found meeting MPA Najaf Sial of PML-Q who is heading the forward bloc in the Punjab, to once again send a message to Nawaz Sharif to either fall in line or face the stick.
But, this time PM Gilani may not feel betrayed and cheated as he had felt in 1986, because this time he is willingly part of this new power game which is being unleashed in Punjab, said the news analysis. (ANI)
