The inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors - Intel, observing the first anniversary of its Atom processor, announced two new versions of its Atom processor, confirmed to launch Nehalem-based mobile processors later this year, and introduced new chip codenamed "Jasper Forest". The Santa Clara, California based chipmaker disclosed about the launch of its upcoming Moorestown chip platform at its Developer Forum in Beijing, on Wednesday.

The third largest computer manufacturer in the world - Acer has unveiled its Aspire Revo ion nettop, which is basically a mini-PC including an Atom CPU with an NV 9400 chipset. According to Taipei, Taiwan based Acer, AspireRevo is the first small form factor computer equipped with Nvidia's Ion platform, combined with Intel's Atom chip and the Ion graphics processor.

It is important to note that the Acer's AspireRevo ion nettop is not a netbook; it is a 'desktop' computer featuring Nvidia Ion turbocharging Intel Atom. Acer intends to boost its presence in the category of nettops, with its AspireRevo.

The branch of United Nations responsible for protecting and supporting refugees - UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) on Tuesday joined a charity program triggered by the popular social networking site Facebook. The UNHCR is using the Facebook to raise funds for the uprooted, displaced people in Afghanistan, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Sudan.

The service pack 1 for all seven editions of its SQL Server 2008 was released by Microsoft on Tuesday. The SQL Server 2008 is Microsoft's relational database management system that uses Transact-SQL as its primary query language.
